Are they really? The
economy is lacking, you just overspent at Costco and you’re stuck at a
light. You probably never guessed, but
there is a rip-shaped, cardboard, “Need Help,” sign attached to a scruffy,
unclean-looking male. You’ve heard it,
right? Stories shared about bottom-feeders
who pretend to be down on their luck to seduce your well-earned dollar. They have the unmitigated gall to walk up and
try to guilt you into purchasing their latest pleasure. Yes, it’s true. You drive a <insert luxury vehicle
here>, but they have one parked in their garage! They’ll take your money, but not a meal and
certainly not a job; confirming that they have no regard for those they
mimic. Okay, well how about looking them
up and down for signs they are authentic.
Are their socks clean, shoes new, scruff fake and do they smell shower
fresh? Not…homeless! Keep driving.
Some other sucker can pay their mortgage.
Askew View: Free will
is a beautiful thing. We’re free to
listen to the Negative Nellie who says they’re just after your money. We’re free to pretend we don’t see them so we
don’t have to feel guilt. We’re free to
be bothered by them pushing their situation on us; after all, we have our own issues
in this economy! We’re also free to
consider a different point of view.
There are numbers of reasons why a person may opt to stand mid-street in
the elements, humiliated and begging for money.
How easy is it for you to ask for help from your loved ones, let alone a
perfect stranger? It’s a shame that some
exploit such a horrifying predicament, but that should have no bearing on your
heart. Give because it is the right
thing to do. The counterfeit recipient
will encounter their maker soon enough.
